The three aisles at the McMurray High School greenhouse are full of products, most with scientific explanations.
The McMurray High School greenhouse isn’t just another gym. It’s a learning tool.
McMurray superintendent Patricia Rieder and greenhouse coordinator Amber Johnson, McMurray School District’s science department, lead visitors through three aisles full of products, most with scientific explanations.
“We offer three to four tours a year and they’re for a lot of different groups. We have classroom teachers and they just come in to learn,” Johnson said.
“They come in and they know that they want to know more about the greenhouse. They come in with questions,” Johnson said. “But we also have parents and we offer the tours to parents as well. It’s a great learning tool.”
This year, the school was excited to offer a tour to the St. Lawrence County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
St. Lawrence County representatives, including Chamber of Commerce Director, Donna Dunbar and Dan Barrett, the chamber’s executive director, stopped by the McMurray High School greenhouse on Oct. 30 to learn more about the school’s greenhouse.
“It’s a resource for us to have, especially with the new bridge and bike path coming,” Dunbar said. “We want to partner with the school district to offer workshops and to have the community gain some knowledge of the greenhouse.”
